lyrics

I

(Instrumental)

II
The cracked and battered ground ahead
breaks under feeble footsteps
Fishing poles point to the sky
as far as this crooked back will push them

Heavy strides pull him across the desert
Invisible tides of what once was

I hear them feeling
or just falling out of their skin
Blue, sleeplessness fades now,
washed away by the black glow
Now I think I’m dreaming
or just falling out of my mind

III
The cracked and battered ground ahead
breaks under feeble footsteps
Fishing poles point to the sky
as far as this crooked back will push them

Heavy strides pull him across the desert
Invisible tides of what once was

His blackened self, stuck to the broken dirt
A phantom burden that tries to pull him back again

Spent your life so far building bridges
now you realize they were walls
Doomed from the start by those around you
before you and those after you

IV
A beggarly mother
Feeding her child
“You are stuck together”
She says as she smiles

“You can not play,
but you can not die;
you can try to escape
but you will never be apart”

"The sea as our garden
The fish as our crop"
Her tears growing larger
Creating a sandstorm

Now we endlessly roam
the damaged ground
There is no more home
to which we are bound

I look at my shadow
An unwelcome friend
But one who is not shallow
being with me until the end

A strong survivor,
ever since mother fed us mush
An old wood cabin
Trapped in desperation, crying dust

V
Lying on the green grass, left in blankets
The reeds have fallen into the river
Over the valley the people stand all in a line
Their faces obscured and their bodies broken and mangled

They whisper help to me
but i will be one of them in time
I reach the end of hope street
Bricks and groupthink surround me
Over the valley i now see
Where desire lines meet

Dead men lie there in the grass
They lie there as the seasons pass
A grim reminder of the last
Generation that flew by too fast

Cos one day we were children,
the next we were trees
living in huge forests of mediocrity

And over the valley wrapped in leaves
a redwood fell down to his knees
When he realized that most human beings
are prying sneaks and lying thieves

But over the valley before we let summer pass
You lie there wrapped in blankets
on the green green grass

VI
The cracked and battered ground ahead
breaks under feeble footsteps
Fishing poles point to the sky
as far as this crooked back will push them

Heavy strides pull him across the desert
Invisible tides of what once was

His blackened self, stuck to the broken dirt
A phantom burden that tries to pull him back again

Spent your life so far building bridges
now you realize they were walls
Doomed from the start by those around you
before you and those after you

VII
Silence is symbols
Hear the porcelain shatter
dry blood all over your tree
Everything bathed in light
In light

VIII

(Instrumental)

IX
What goes around comes around
so make the best out of life's chances
Just remember you are wayward bound
and this desert is not endless

What goes around comes around
so stop staring at broken bridges
You can always take the walls down
or pass the tests through the ridges

Like bait thrown to the sky
what goes around, comes around

Like thunder in the desert
what goes around, will take you down

X
The cracked and battered ground turns into sky
missing the touch of his footsteps
Fishing poles lay on their side
waiting for the next crooked back to push them

And now there's nothing at all
